METHODOLOGY
Students graduate from Teddy Bear equipped with bilingual skills, solid values, and rich cultural experiences, thanks to a strong emphasis on rapidly developing fluency and proficiency.
We apply our methodology using the concept of Learn by Doing – experimenting, learning, and being prepared to interact in a world that demands connections and social skills.
We are experts in English language teaching for children from age 2 to teenagers in high school, ages 15 to 17.
Our classes are formed according to school year, emotional-cognitive maturity, and students’ prior English knowledge.
Our small class sizes allow for greater interaction and individualized attention, with an average of 7 students per class.
We have a specialized pedagogical team with ongoing training and full-time pedagogical coordination, focused on evolving the methodology and providing exclusive support for cultural educators and students.
We provide an environment that offers complete language immersion: students are welcomed in English and encouraged to interact with the language at all times.
We are an official TOEFL test center, a certification accepted and recognized worldwide. Every semester, we accept optional applications from students aged 9 (A1 level) to 17 (C1 level).
Teddy Bear develops its own methodology and exclusive Educational Programs® that promote learning through forming relationships and students’ interaction with the context in which they are immersed, which goes beyond the classroom.
John Dewey, American educator and pioneer of progressive education, has a quote that inspires and guides our program planning: “Education is a social process; education is growth. Education is not a preparation for life; education is life itself.”
It is through these concepts that we seek to help our students experience the fullness of human expression and make visible what cannot be seen: tailor-made by Teddy Bear.
TEDDY BEAR CULTURAL
The 21st-century student needs to be comfortable processing information and stimuli in English continuously. And so the program provides resources that contextualize lesson content through dynamic pedagogical activities and that harness technology naturally and organically.
The program uses culinary experiences to develop students’ English language skills and widen their vocabulary while sparking interest in a useful and important life skill: cooking.
This program encourages physical exercise through outdoor sports activities that develop a broad range of motor coordination skills, teamwork, cooperation, discipline, autonomy, authentic language use, rules, and fair play.
We stimulate curiosity and a love for reading and writing in our students, developing important academic skills such as critical thinking, creativity, and the ability to use imagination.
This program focuses on a very current and relevant topic: sustainability and environmental education. Lessons take place in our organic gardens, and students participate in the entire cycle of planting, growing, and harvesting vegetables, fruits, and legumes.
Stories touch our hearts and enrich our brains. This Educational Program® sparks a love for reading, simulates curiosity and imagination, and develops critical interpretation and interpersonal skills, creating lifelong memories for our students.
This promotes spontaneous and contextualized social interaction, transforming snack time into a moment that values human contact and encourages dialogue in English through games, riddles, and topics that explore the world of food.
This program helps students to master public speaking, increases their self-confidence in school presentations, exercises critical thinking skills, and prepares them for other life challenges.
Here we engage students in activities that help them work on self-awareness, social awareness, relationships, responsible decision-making, and self-management. These activities are integrated into the curriculum, because every day is a day to develop life skills.
Teddy Bear Cultural
English in bilingual schools or schools with bilingual programs
Teddy Bear Cultural develops language mastery quickly and in a visible way for families, with a focus on learning the English language and developing social communication skills (English for everyday interactions).
Bilingual schools or schools with bilingual programs focus on developing English fluency through mastery of academic content. For example, students will be able to interact in English during lessons on photosynthesis or geography, or explain mathematical concepts such as fractions (content from the school curriculum). This language is more complex and takes longer to become visible in students’ speech.
Key difference: Teddy Bear quickly develops English mastery that goes far beyond culture, as opposed to English for curricular content.
We teach international English, in all its variations. Students will be able to understand and be understood in any country where English is an official language or used as a universal language.
No. Learning in the early years of childhood needs to be playful, and English is acquired through meaningful experiences that involve children in discovery about themselves, others, and the world around them. Learning another language early on is a great stimulus for developing our potential. The earlier, the better! This is Teddy Bear’s main premise.
In addition, in the early years of childhood, facial muscles are developing, which makes it easier to pronounce sounds characteristic of the English language, such as the “th” sound.
At Teddy Bear, students are assessed from various perspectives, such as language progress, classroom performance, and overall development. From the ages of 8 or 9, when the simultaneous development of listening, speaking, reading, and writing begins, we also administer a formal assessment.
Teddy Bear’s Cultural Educators are rigorously selected for their vocation to teach English to children and teenagers, prior experience in the educational field, and academic background. Before entering a Teddy Bear classroom, these professionals undergo an immersion course in the school’s methodology. In addition, they receive pedagogical support weekly and are in constant training through the Teddy Bear Corporate Education Program.
Our students graduate with an advanced level of proficiency between the ages of 16/17, usually when they are in their second year of high school.
There is no traditional break; instead, we run the Snack Time educational program during class time. This program transforms snack time into an activity that combines English with topics related to food, nutrition, hygiene, sustainability, food culture, and more.
No. With a dynamic and interactive methodology, students remain active and engaged, achieving excellent weekly results. This 3-hour immersion offers students intensive English language practice, which is very positive for learning.
Yes. From the ages of 8/9, when literacy in Portuguese has been consolidated and English literacy has begun, we start to give students homework.
Yes. Our brains transform when we are obliged to find different ways to communicate in a language that is not our native one. At Teddy Bear, from the first day of class, the Cultural Educator negotiates with students that English will be the language of communication between them.
